Research of other Film Trailer (2)

INSIDIOUS

(1) In this trailer you can clearly see that there is a normal layout of a family, consisting of a mother and father and two young boys. On this trailer it gives away quite a bit of the narrative of the film. Such as that there is a evil demon thing inside the mind of one of the little boys, and that he inherited this from his father... As the exact same thing was happening to the father when he was younger. In this the boy's soul interacts with a demon (evil spirit type thing) and that if the demon stays inside him any longer then the boy would die. Whilst the demon was inside of the little boy, he looked like he was in a comma. As that is why the boys whole family thought he was in a deep comma.

(2) In the movie there is a family which consists of mother and father with two young boys, and they have realised that something is wrong with one of the boys. In the trailer it is in a non chronological order, meaning all scenes are mixed and muddles up and are not following the order of the actual movie. Whereas in the movie the family don't know whats wrong with the boy, however the trailers first shot is a scene which is in the middle of the movie and that scene's is when they know what is wrong with the some and then in the specific shot they are showing the audience how they can cure the boy.  There is one shot in this trailer which you can see the whole of the setting, which is in the boys room. In this shot you can see the little boy on the floor, and that there has been something in his room as there us a red hand print on the white bed covers. You can clearly tell that this hand print is not the boys. There are NO voice overs in the trailer, as there is just dialogue of certain quotes the characters say in the movie itself.

(3) The order of the narrative shots that are used in the trailer are in non chronological order. We know this as the first shot in the trailer is a scene from the movie which in the movie is shown half way through it and its a scene about the fact that everyone knows what is happening to the little boy and they are trying to cure him. However at the beginning of the movie no one knows what is actually wrong with the boy.

(4) There are only 72 shot which are shown in the trailer.

(5) There is alot of fast pace editing which is being used through out the whole of the trailer, this created plenty of tension for the audience as looking at it all so fast teh audience might miss certain parts and would hook them into watching the film. It creates a lot of suspense as well as tension, as it makes you wonder if the creature type thing is in the house or the boy.

(6) The trailer contains a few black screens, and a lot of repition of the title. This is showing that as the son has inherited this disese type thing from his dad, the chirldren of the son can inherit it aswell so it may carry on for generations. And would not be forgotton like the title they kept showing us the title 'INSIDIOUS' as they don't want the audience to forget what film the trailer is about.

(7)

(8) The sound used in the trailer was mainly a thuding and a screeching noise, to reprsent that there is a lot of nasty things happening in the film itself. Doing this sets the ambience that it is a horror. Also there is a background noise of a grandfather clock 'tick tock' which tells the audience that the boy and father are under a lot of pressure as they might be running out of time.

(9) In the trailer there are mainly mid shots, this way you can see the characters but also the surroundings which they are in. Also close ups so this way you can see the expressions of their faces. Using these shots and angles creates tension as they know something bad is going to happen and suspense at why are tehy making that expression?.

Research of other Film Trailer (1)

ORPHAN

(1) This movie has a normal nuclear family, which had consisted of both mother and father and a son and daughter. Both parents then after even having two children of their own decided to adopt a child, after going to the orphanage they cam home with a 'little girl'. Who then turns out to be a 30 year old women who was disguised as a younger girl of the age of 10. The reason she could easily get away with being a 10 year old little girl was because she had a disease which never let her go through the changes that a young girl would go through. So the cause of this was the fact that she would not grow and would be the height of a 10 year old girl. When the little girl reveals that she isn't a young girl and in fact is a women, she then throws herself on her adopted father and tries to seduce him... But he was not having any of it and pushed her off him. She tries to kill her family so this way she can get the father to herself but the plan backfires and she ends up killing the father as she can not take rejection, and by the end of the whole film she ends up getting killed by getting kicked in the neck which broke and she fell in a ice cold pond.

(2) Quite abit of the narrative is reveled in the trailer, Because from the trailer we understood the main higlight of the whole film. The story of the film, which we gathered from the trailer was the fact that the mother and father had two children already and yet still wanted another child, and after going to the orphanage they brought home a loverly little 10 year old girl. The trailer even told us the name of the little girl whom the adopted, her name is Esther. But at the begining what the parents dont know is that she is out to kill the family. Shes out to hurt anybody is is nasty, pick on her reject her or just dont trust or beleive her as the little girl in her class who says to Esther 'little bo peep wants her clothes back' as Esther got upset and angry she pays the girl back by pushing her off a climbing frame in the park. It is belived that she is a nice little girl by the dialogue used fir example 'i love you daddy' and 'i have a pressent for you mommy'. There are NO voiceovers in the trailer as you just hear snimpits of dialougue of what the charachters say in the actual film. During the begining there are more midshots as everything is cal, However there are more close ups when the torture to the family starts happening, this is to create as much tension in the trailer as in the film itself. Another thing which creates a lot of tension in the trailer is the ammount of jump cuts being used.

(3) The narrative order in the trailer is the same order than the movie... As it shows them adopting Esther to her getting killed at the very end. Even the middle bits of the movie are actually the middle parts in the trailer.

(4) 107 shots have been used and done in this trailer.

(5) When it is comming to the end of the trailer the pace of the editing is getting faster as it is showing all the action that is happened in the movie. They have done this because it makes the film trailer cleary tell the audience that the movie is a Horror/Thriller.

(6) The trailer contains no fades or wipes at all as the whole trailer is in colour. The trailer also runs rather smoothly as they are using lots of shots in different scenes and also there are some black screen transitions. The black screen creates tension and also suspense of what is going to happen next.

(7) A certain quote is mentioned in the trailer and this specific quote is from the Nun 'theres something wrong with Esther', after she says this in the trailer there is a white background with black writing actually saying the quote whcih the Nun just mentioned. This does actually link to the visuals as you can actually see that there is clearly something wrong with Esther. Doing this does actually set the narrative of the film, as the text does relate to the title. Also by using the text and that certain quote does bulid suspence and makes you want to know the rest of the narrative of the film.

(8) The begining of the trailer there is calm and yet sothing music, this is because at the begining o the trailer there is no nasty things happening and just happy things. Its happy and calm as there is a girl get adopted from a orphanage and getting to go in a happy families home, whom are willing to love and care for her. But as soon as things are getting nasty and people have clocked on that the little innocent girl is NOT innocent anymore the music is more tension building and is no longer calm.

(9) There are long shots and mid shots which are mainly used at the start of the tailer, they are sed mainly in the school, house ad the orphanage. The reason for this sis the fact there is not no tension in the moody so we dont need to focuse of anything in particular such as facial expressions. But later in the trailer there are close ups to see facial expressions as Esther tries to kill the mother and long shots so you can set teh scence and see what the atmosphere is like, doing this creates tension.
